What to do at Dollywood Based on your Favorite Dolly Song

Editor’s Note: This post was written by Lindsay Ball, Dollywood Parks & Resorts Public Relations Intern

With so many shows, rides and other exciting options to choose from, it can be difficult to decide where to start your day at Dollywood. If you’re torn between the choices, why not turn to the park’s inspiration, Dolly Parton, to help? Here’s the first thing you should do at Dollywood based on your favorite Dolly Parton song:

Jolene: Blazing Fury

“Jolene” is one of Dolly’s most popular songs, weaving a tale of desperation and romantic drama. Jolene now is an iconic woman in pop culture due to the song’s success. Blazing Fury, one of Dollywood’s most beloved rides, also features some unforgettable women. As fire comes swiftly through their town, the women of Blazing Fury attempt to manage their lives, whether that be by wrangling a husband or making a rooftop escape. If you love Jolene and her flaming hair, don’t miss seeing the strong women of Blazing Fury.

Coat of Many Colors: Chasing Rainbows

If you are in love with Dolly’s story of her childhood, a mother’s love and a patchwork coat, you have to visit the Chasing Rainbows museum at Dollywood. As guests explore the museum, they follow Dolly Parton’s life from her early years through her current successes. The museum features not only its own replica of the Coat of Many Colors but many of Dolly’s incredible outfits since. The museum is sure to fill you with inspiration and a warmed heart as you learn more about the life of the one and only Dolly Parton.

I Will Always Love You: Harmonies of the Heart

As the song’s title reminds listeners, Dolly Parton is a soul filled with love for everyone she encounters. Within her life, Dolly always emphasizes the importance of the love between family members. The new show Harmonies of the Heart puts this familial love on display for all guests to witness. Harmonies of the Heart features Dolly’s family as they sing and tell stories about their love for “Aunt Granny.” Harmonies of the Heart is sure to have guests ready to share the love long after the show has ended.

Hard Candy Christmas: Sweet Shoppe Candy Kitchen

Even during the hot months of summer, I find myself thinking about Dolly’s lovely holiday song “Hard Candy Christmas.” In the song, Dolly swears not to let her sorrow keep her down. What better way to keep sadness at bay than to visit the Sweet Shoppe Candy Kitchen? Guests of all ages and tastes can find something to their liking, whether it is the delicious fudge or the native Appalachian potato candy. This sweet stop is sure to have you thinking about the beautiful (and tasty) parts of life.

My Tennessee Mountain Home: Dolly’s Tennessee Mountain Home

If you are captivated by Dolly’s description of her home in the Smoky Mountains, then you will love Dolly’s Tennessee Mountain Home. Guests can imagine what Dolly’s childhood was like as they tour this replica of her little mountain home in Locust Ridge. It’s the perfect way to connect to the Smoky Mountains and Dolly Parton. Dolly’s Tennessee Mountain Home is the perfect start to a day at Dollywood as it reminds you how Dolly’s life and dreams began.

Joshua: Dollywood Express

This heartfelt song tells the story of Dolly befriending and falling in love with a man named Joshua who lives down the railroad track. Dolly’s journey along the railroad track leads to life-changing moments. If you’re looking for magic and love at the railroad, the Dollywood Express is for you. The Dollywood Express will take guests on a journey through the Smoky Mountains that is sure to lead to lifelong memories. Maybe you’ll even meet a wonderful stranger along the way.

If you’re still unsure of where to start on your day, don’t stress! With so many things to do at Dollywood, there’s something for everyone to love.
