Fresh out of candy at your house? Well, you can make some if you have these four common ingredients: potatoes, powdered sugar, peanut butter and water.

Does that sound ridiculous? [Even for 2020!]

Decades ago, it was resourceful. For Appalachian families who couldn’t afford the luxury of taking their children to the candy store, they scrounged in their cupboards and came up with this recipe to please little ones.

Potato candy emerged during the Great Depression and has stuck around as a regional treat. At Dollywood, it’s a top-seller.
