Part 4: Dollywood’s Annual Additions

Anniversaries are fun. It’s a time of celebration and reflection. With this blog series, we’ve looked at the year-by-year additions to Dollywood. Breaking down the annual additions is a great way to display our park’s commitment to always improve. We aim to surprise and delight our guests. Just consider what Dollywood has offered guests in the past five seasons:

2016- We opened the $22 million attraction, Lightning Rod, and added to the Christmas experience with the brand-new Parade of Many Colors in Dollywood’s 31st season.

2017- Dollywood opened two new attractions for year 32: Drop Line and Whistle Punk Chaser. It was also the year Great Pumpkin LumiNights debuted. Across the street, Dollywood’s Splash Country opened TailSpin Racer—a five-story racing slide.

2018- In season 33, Glacier Ridge was introduced to accentuate Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana and in the same season, we doubled the size of the Great Pumpkin LumiNights’ footprint.

2019- Our 34th year is a year to remember because we opened our largest expansion in park history with Wildwood Grove. We also expanded Glacier Ridge into the new land.

2020- As Dollywood marked 35 years of business, we entered a global pandemic. Despite the challenges, we were able to open our park to guests AND add a brand-new festival this season. The Flower & Food Festival featured hundreds of thousands of vibrant plants blooming in brilliant splashes of color. Plus, with new elements of surprise for both our Harvest Festival and Smoky Mountain Christmas still to come, the second half of this year will end on a high note!

If we have added all of this in the past five seasons, just imagine what’s to come in the next five seasons! And the next five. And the five after that.

Thanks for walking down memory lane with us. We look forward to growing with you for years to come!
