True Story: Avoid My #MomFail with Season Passes

I’m here to tell you that even as a Dollywood veteran, I experience #momfail at the park. Last weekend, I planned a trip with my family. I thought I had it all figured out. I thought I had it all covered—all the important Christmas must-dos for my boys. But… there were a few things I didn’t take into consideration. I’ll share my story, but the point is, I realized—that is, I truly understood—that even with a plan, you CANNOT do EVERYTHING at Dollywood in one visit. Your best bet is to use Season Passes so you can return again and again.

Here’s my story–

My plan:
We’ll arrive in time to see ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Reality:
That’s a popular show. The time we wanted was already out of vouchers. So, I stood in line to get vouchers for the next show.

My plan:
Then we’ll visit Santa in Santa Land.
Reality:
After waiting patiently in line, my 3.5 year old had lost interest in sharing his wish list with the man in red and my 14-month-old wanted to know why the heck I would plop him down with a stranger. I’m not going to lie. It’s one of my new favorite pictures, so all is not lost.

My plan:
We’ll enjoy some of the boys’ favorite rides in Country Fair.
Reality:
No time for that. We must jump ahead to check off the seasonal items on the list.

My plan:
Ride the Dollywood Express.
Reality:
See above. No time for the choo choo. We must get to the seasonal stops!

My plan:
Move on to Holly Jolly Junction.
Reality:
I’m not going to name names, but someone decided he NEEDED a picture with Bumble. But when we were there, we saw Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Clarice and Yukon Cornelius. We had to come back two. more. times. We kept missing him! But, FINALLY we captured that coveted moment.

My plan:
Next, we’ll see Wonderful Christmas and walk through Glacier Ridge.
Reality:
With my plan out the window at this point, we missed the first few minutes of Wonderful Christmas. But, we were there for the snow at the end. That’s what matters to the little ones. [Stay tuned for a blog about how to take good pictures at night with Christmas lights. Ha.]

My plan:
Finish the night with Parade of Many Colors.
Reality:
CHECK! Of all the items on the list, this is the ONE we accomplished as I had envisioned.

In the end, my plan was worthless. BUT, my family had a blast. It was such a fun day. That’s a win. And, we’re planning to return before the season ends to fit in even more fun. Lesson learned: don’t attempt to cram it all in. Plan to come more than once each season which is easy to do with Season Passes.
