Come Back to the Smokies

Recovery. It’s the process of getting back to normal. In all things, God has a plan and that plan is beautifully illustrated in a new message from Dolly Parton.

I was lucky enough to be in the studio the day Dolly sat down to communicate her heartfelt thoughts about the November fires in the Great Smoky Mountains, the My People Fund she created to help the victims and the recovery of the Smokies. The words came easily. As she described it, recovery is a “God thing.” “….sometimes God sweeps away some things to make room for something new. Something brighter.”

In part, Dolly was referencing the more than 1,500 types of wildflowers that bloom in the mountains where she grew up. Recovery in the Smokies means the new flowers are blooming in areas affected by the fires providing a colorful show of rejuvenation. It also means the resurgence of the people in the area. Faith, hard work and mountain toughness have the people of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forges returning to normalcy ready to serve the families who annually visit the Great Smoky Mountains for a vacation or family getaway.

If there was one message Dolly wanted to get across to families planning a vacation is that what you love about the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Dollywood and Pigeon Forge is all still here. The mountains are beautiful and awe inspiring, the attractions and theatres as exciting and entertaining. In fact, there are new adventures for your family to experience and new memories to be made as a family.

As Dolly says, “Come on back, we’re here and we are better than ever. “
